I Build Giants

by Ryan Stevens

ABOUT THE PLAY:

An Engineer successfully designs the world’s first operational, large-scale, humanoid mech, naming it a Gossamer (GOSMR — Greater Outer Self-Manual Reach). She hopes they will change the world. She hopes they’ll revolutionize industry and how we interact with building things and the very concept of the self, machines, and existence. But for others, this breakthrough is a chance to make huge money and sell armored titans to the highest bidder.

To some, the Engineer’s Gossamers are terrifying. A Technician is looking to create not just new machines, bur new people. An Astronaut is hired to take the Gossamers to the stars. But the same powers-that-be that love the Gossamers are not as welcoming to this technology that can’t be turned into profit.

As the Engineer’s earnest joy turns to hubris, and the Gossamers get more varied and specialized, the Engineer must reckon with the world she has helped to create. A story about ego, the burden of dreams, and why giant robots are just so damn cool to us.

I Was Made for Less

by Cody James

ABOUT THE PLAY:

Fallen, alone, afraid.

One individual has fallen from society, from the world; all because of how they choose to live.

A Trial is held and judgement is upon them. Their fate rests in the hands of the Four High Adjudicators: Gods of Decency and Morality who maintain the power to wipe insolence from the world. They explore memories, events and “evidence” in an effort to frame the Individual for gross indecency and sentence them, and anyone like them, to the cruelest of fates.

This piece explores gender expression and the way society reacts, and mostly shuns, any thing different from the norm through a stark combination of courtroom drama and expressionist science-fantasy.

Of Shapes Invisible

A New Devised Play

ABOUT THE PLAY:

Two pairs; each a parent and their child.

One pair alone on an island; the other half a world away, ruling over a lost kingdom.

In spite of their apparent separation, the younger of each pair are connected via the tiniest thread of synapses in their deepest slumbers.

This new play, devised by Red Hill Theatre group, takes characters and concepts from William Shakespeare’s “Tempest” and chisels them down into a concentrated look at the relationships between parents and their children, the fears and longings we visualize in our dreams and the interconnectivity of the world as a whole.

ABOUT THE DEVISING PROCESS:

Devising is a unique and collaborative means of producing theatre.

While this particular piece has a denoted concept, as described above, the actual storyline and script will be worked out through the months leading up to performances.

Specifically, member of Red Hill and the decided cast and crew of the piece will engage in story sharing, physical and verbal workshops as well as numerous other exercises under the loose guidance of a devising leader.
